Romantic Evenings in Beirut
Travel advisory, as of October 2026. The US government tells its citizens not to travel to Lebanon, citing armed conflict, terrorism, unrest, kidnapping, landmines and crime, and says its ability to help citizens there is very limited. The UK FCDO advises against all travel to the south, Nabatiyeh, much of the Beqaa and Baalbek-Hermel, parts of the southern suburbs of Beirut, northern Akkar and the Palestinian camps. Strikes can come without warning and airspace can close at short notice. Read the FCDO advice and travel.state.gov before you book anything. UK travel insurance may be invalid if you travel against FCDO advice.
Romance in Beirut is mostly an evening affair: a sunset on the seafront, a long dinner and a room in one of the older neighbourhoods. The list is short and honest. Given the advisory above, a trip for two should be short, flexible and booked with free cancellation, with the news checked before each outing.
Sunset at Raouche
The best free date is the Corniche near Raouche, where the Pigeon Rocks stand offshore as two limestone sea stacks. The promenade is open at all hours, and the hour before sunset is when couples and families fill it. Bring a jacket, since the wind picks up after dark. The rocks are a viewpoint only. The shoreline below is rocky and sheer, so there is nothing to swim or dive in, and boat trips through the arches are reported without confirmed prices.
Dinner in Achrafieh and Mar Mikhael
Em Sherif, on Rue Victor Hugo in Achrafieh, is a trading restaurant that appeared on a 2026 regional best restaurants list. Booking ahead is advisable, and no price range is confirmed, so ask when you reserve. Tawlet by Souk el Tayeb, on Armenia Street in Mar Mikhael, serves a rotating buffet of home cooking from Monday to Saturday and runs at roughly $28 a head on secondary reports. Liza Beirut has no closure news, but its 2026 status is unconfirmed, and its address is given as the Doumani or Metropolitan Club area, so phone first.
Where to stay
Hotel Albergo in Achrafieh and Arthaus Beirut in Gemmayzeh are both listed as trading. Only listings were found, so nothing about rates or rooms is confirmed. Ask about generator power at any hotel, because the state grid supplies only a few hours a day, and confirm a cancellation policy before paying. You can compare options on Booking.com , and Achrafieh and Gemmayzeh are not named in the current FCDO lists.
A gentle day together
Walk the Corniche from Manara to Raouche in the afternoon, then see an exhibition at the Sursock Museum in Achrafieh. The museum reopened in May 2023 after blast repairs and lists its current shows on sursock.museum . Ask about hours and tickets before you go, since the site has no visit page. Coffee in Hamra, near the university, is an easy second stop.
Practical tips for two
Take crisp US dollars printed from 2013 on, because many restaurants quote in dollars and refuse older or torn notes. Cards are unreliable. Ride-hailing through Careem shows the fare upfront, and unmetered taxis need the price agreed before you get in. Skip Ramlet el-Baida, where sewage outfalls are reported, and use a private beach club if you want the sea. Water quality varies there.
