Rio's Ticketed Attractions and Tours
Rio’s institutional icons open their doors to more than a photo from the pavement: locker rooms at the Maracanã, an open-sided tram over an 18th-century aqueduct, and a naval launch out to an imperial ball venue moored in Guanabara Bay.
Maracanã Stadium tour
The self-guided route through Portão A takes in the locker rooms, warm-up room, players’ tunnel and pitch-side bench, plus a museum of Garrincha, Pelé and Zico memorabilia. Tours run daily 09:00-16:30, with last entry at 16:00, though match days close the route three to five hours before kickoff. A self-guided ticket costs R$75 adult, R$37.50 concession; the guided version, offered in Portuguese, English and Spanish, runs R$90 and R$45. Santa Teresa Tramway
The Bondinho de Santa Teresa leaves Estação Carioca beside the Petrobras building, crosses the top of the Arcos da Lapa aqueduct 18 meters up, and winds through Largo do Curvelo and Largo dos Guimarães. Departures run every 20-30 minutes, Monday to Friday 08:00-17:30 and weekends 09:00-16:00. A round-trip ticket is R$20, sold at the Carioca window only, cash, debit or Pix. Keep bags and phones inside the car; the open sides make reach-in grabs easy at intersections and stops.
Museu do Amanhã and MAR
At Praça Mauá, the Museum of Tomorrow charges R$30 adult and R$15 concession, Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-18:00, closed Mondays, with free entry for everyone every Tuesday (book a timed slot in advance, released the Monday before). Across the plaza, MAR, the Museu de Arte do Rio, runs R$20 and R$10 on the same Tuesday-to-Sunday schedule, also free on Tuesdays and on the last Sunday of the month. Ilha Fiscal, by navy launch
A green neo-Gothic palace on an islet in Guanabara Bay hosted the last imperial ball of the monarchy on November 9, 1889, six days before the republic was declared. The Brazilian Navy runs the only access, a short tender crossing from the pier at Praça XV, Thursday to Sunday at 12:45, 14:15 and 15:30. Tickets are R$50 adult, R$25 concession, sold from the ticket office at Praça XV from 11:00.
The verdict
Book the Maracanã tour for the morning and land a free Tuesday at Museu do Amanhã and MAR on the same trip; that alone covers three of the four venues here without a single paid museum ticket.
