Penang With Kids: The Big Four
Four attractions carry most of Penang’s family-day weight, and each one holds up on its own without needing to be paired with the others.
ESCAPE Penang, Teluk Bahang
ESCAPE holds two Guinness World Records: the longest tube water slide at 1,111 meters (a four-minute ride through jungle canopy) and the longest zip coaster at 1,135 meters. The 44-acre park splits into Adventureplay (ropes courses, obstacle runs, zip lines), Waterplay (flumes, wave pool, splash pads), and Gravityplay (tubing slides, chairlifts). Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00, closed Mondays. Non-Malaysian adult tickets run RM 150 to 189 (about $35 to 45), children RM 105 to 129, with online booking through escape.my cutting the gate price by up to 30 percent. Proper swimwear is required for the water sections.
Entopia by Penang Butterfly Farm
A glass-domed sanctuary in Teluk Bahang houses over 15,000 free-flying butterflies across 60 species, alongside reptiles and giant insects. The Natureland section has waterfalls and koi ponds outdoors, and The Cocoon runs indoor, air-conditioned science exhibits for the hottest part of the day. The TOP, Komtar Tower
The TOP occupies Penang’s tallest building at 249 meters. The Rainbow Skywalk on level 68 is an open-air glass bridge cantilevered out past the tower’s edge, while the level 65 observatory deck is indoor and air-conditioned with glass floor panels, a better option in the midday heat. Tech Dome Penang
On Komtar’s fourth and fifth floors, Tech Dome packs in 120 hands-on exhibits across robotics, physics, and astronomy, plus a free-standing vertical drop slide. Open daily except Tuesdays, 10:00 to 18:00. Adult tickets are RM 30, children RM 20, and it is the easiest of the four to fit into a rainy afternoon since it is entirely indoors.
Getting between them
ESCAPE and Entopia sit a short walk apart in Teluk Bahang, roughly 35 minutes by Grab from George Town; The TOP and Tech Dome are both inside Komtar in the city center. The verdict
Budget a full day for ESCAPE alone if water slides are the goal; Entopia, The TOP, and Tech Dome each fit into two to three hours and can be combined in one day if you start early.
