Multi-Day Trips Through Surat Thani
Most “multi-day Surat Thani itinerary” posts are actually Koh Phangan itineraries wearing a provincial name tag, three days of beach and nightlife with the mainland and the lake never mentioned once. That’s not a multi-day trip through this province; it’s a third of one.
Days 1 to 3: Khao Sok and Cheow Lan Lake
Fly into Surat Thani Airport (URT) and transfer to Khao Sok. Day one is jungle trekking and river canoeing. Day two moves to Ratchaprapha Pier for a longtail boat out to a floating raft house on Cheow Lan Lake, with an afternoon of kayaking and a stop at Pakarang Cave. Day three is a dawn wildlife boat safari before heading to Donsak Pier for the ferry crossing.
Days 4 to 5: Koh Samui and Ang Thong
A high-speed catamaran gets you to Koh Samui. Day four covers the Big Buddha temple and Fisherman’s Village Bophut; day five is a full-day Ang Thong Marine Park boat trip, the Emerald Lake overlook, sea kayaking, and the archipelago views the marine park is actually known for.
Days 6 to 7: pick diving or quiet
The last stretch forks two ways: Koh Tao for reef diving, or Koh Phangan for coastal hiking and the yoga scene around Srithanu, before returning to the mainland for onward travel. Neither is the “better” choice in the abstract; it depends on whether you came here to dive or to slow down.
What this actually costs across 7 days
Cheow Lan raft house nights run $110 to $180 for a standard bamboo raft, the Ang Thong day boat runs $55 to $80 plus a 300 THB park fee, and Lomprayah catamaran transfers between the mainland and the islands run 500 to 1,100 THB per leg depending on distance. None of it is cheap island backpacking, but it’s a fraction of what a comparable rainforest-plus-island week costs anywhere else in Southeast Asia with this much geography packed into one province.
Why the lake gets cut first
Cheow Lan Lake has no cell signal, no card machines, and generator power only in the evening, which is exactly why itinerary writers who never actually left the islands tend to skip it. That’s the wrong instinct. It’s the most distinctive three days on this list, not the most skippable.
Verdict: don’t let the islands eat the whole trip. A real Surat Thani multi-day itinerary spends its first half inland and on the lake before it ever reaches a beach, and cutting that half to add a fourth island day trades the province’s actual highlight for more of what you could get anywhere in the Gulf.
Book the Cheow Lan raft house nights before the island leg, not after, since arriving there already sunburned and short on cash from the islands is a bad way to spend two nights with no ATM. For the single-day version of the same rainforest-to-reef route, see the day trips guide .
