Memphis: The 2026 Events Worth Timing
Memphis’s event calendar gets confusing fast because one long-running festival everybody expects, Beale Street Music Festival, isn’t confirmed for 2026. Here’s what’s actually locked in, and how to plan around it.
The Beale Street Music Festival gap
Beale Street Music Festival was on hiatus in 2024 and 2025, and as of this writing the official Memphis in May site does not list a 2026 return. Don’t book a trip around it. If you see a third-party site advertising firm BSMF 2026 dates, treat that skeptically and check the official Memphis in May calendar directly before you rely on it.
What’s actually confirmed for May 2026
RiverBeat Music Festival, May 1-3 2026, Tom Lee Park, is the real early-May music anchor now, and it’s confirmed. The World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, May 13-16 2026, Liberty Park, is the world’s largest pork barbecue contest and a genuinely different kind of event, competition rigs and smoke rather than a concert lineup. Both draw crowds, and May as a whole is a booking-spike month for hotels citywide, book your room well ahead if your dates land anywhere in it.
Elvis Week, August 8-16 2026
Elvis Week runs August 8-16 2026 at Graceland, with the Candlelight Vigil on August 15, the eve of the anniversary of Elvis’s death on August 16, 1977. This is the single biggest hotel-price spike of the year anywhere near Graceland and Whitehaven specifically, book months ahead if you’re coming that week, or plan your Memphis trip for a different stretch entirely if Elvis Week itself isn’t the point of your visit.
Smaller, ongoing events
Cooper-Young, Memphis’s Midtown arts neighborhood, typically runs its annual festival in early October, check the current calendar for exact dates before you plan around it. Graceland runs a Christmas at Graceland season each year, roughly late November through December, with light displays and a drive-through tour, worth knowing about if you’re visiting in winter rather than summer. Treat any specific date beyond the three confirmed 2026 events above as provisional until you check the venue’s own site.
Planning around the calendar
If you want Memphis’s music-festival energy without the RiverBeat crowds, April-early June and mid-September-early November are the best weather windows anyway, before summer’s heat and humidity and outside spring’s real tornado and severe-storm risk. For the rest of the trip plan, see the Memphis guide and the 4-day itinerary , which notes the May and Elvis Week booking spikes day by day.
