If the last thing you read about Encore Melaka said it was closed, that information is two years out of date. It reopened in July 2024 and it’s still running.

The 360-degree rotating auditorium at Impression City seats 2,000 and stages a 70-minute production covering 600 years of the city’s history, built around water stages, layered projection mapping, and a cast in the low hundreds. It typically closes Wednesdays; book ahead rather than showing up, since the rotating seating format sells out on weekend nights.
The market that only exists three nights a week
Jonker Street’s night market is the other headline event here, and it is also the single most misunderstood fact about visiting Malacca City. It runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, roughly 18:00 to 23:00, and it is genuinely closed the rest of the week, not quiet, closed. Buskers, Chinese opera performers, martial arts demonstrations, and food stalls fill the pedestrianized street during those hours; arrive midweek expecting any of that and you’ll find shuttered stalls instead.
What happens along the river every night
Separate from the weekend market, the river promenade runs light and water-screen projections nightly, a lower-key multimedia display along the water that doesn’t depend on which day you’ve landed. It’s a reasonable consolation if your dates don’t line up with a weekend, and a good warm-up before dinner even if they do.
The festival worth timing a trip around
Pesta San Pedro, the Feast of Saint Peter, fills the Portuguese Settlement in late June with decorated fishing boats, Portuguese folk dancing, and plates of Curry Debal. It’s the Kristang community’s biggest event of the year and it does not repeat at any other time, so it only works if your dates happen to land there.
Booking Encore Melaka without the guesswork
Impression City sits along the coast, a Grab ride rather than a walk from the historic core, so factor that into your evening timing rather than assuming you can stroll over from Dutch Square after dinner. Seats closer to the rotating stage’s center tend to sell out first for weekend performances, so lock in a date once your trip dates are firm instead of waiting until you land. Verdict: if your trip includes any Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night, build your evening around Jonker Street and skip forcing it on a Tuesday. If it doesn’t, Encore Melaka’s schedule runs independent of the weekend and is the stronger bet for a midweek evening.
