Family Days Out in Vancouver, by Age
A day that works for a toddler rarely works for a teenager, so splitting Vancouver’s family activities by what kids actually do at each one, rather than by neighbourhood, makes planning around nap times and attention spans much easier.
Hands-on and indoors
Science World at False Creek runs interactive exhibits and an OMNIMAX add-on for around $7 to $10 CAD extra, and works as a rainy-day plan for almost any age. The Vancouver Aquarium, inside Stanley Park, gives younger kids a touch pool and sea otters to watch, with dynamic adult pricing generally between $40 and $55 CAD. FlyOver Canada at Canada Place puts everyone in a flight simulator seat over the country’s landscapes for roughly $35 to $40 CAD a ticket, with a discount for BC residents on Tuesdays.
Outdoors and free
Stanley Park’s seawall is flat, paved, and free, and works well for a family bike rental from nearby Denman Street; keep to the counter-clockwise direction in the one-way cycling section. The Kitsilano outdoor heated saltwater pool, at 137 meters one of the longest in North America, charges a modest drop-in fee in summer and gives kids a view of the mountains while they swim. Lynn Canyon Park in North Vancouver costs nothing to enter and has a gentler suspension bridge and rainforest trail than its paid Capilano counterpart, better suited to smaller children.
A seasonal extra
Between late February and mid-December, the Stanley Park horse-drawn carriage tour runs without a reservation, with adult tickets typically $65 to $88 CAD and children $30 to $40 CAD depending on the season, a slower-paced option for families with very young kids or anyone pushing a stroller who’d rather skip the full seawall loop on foot.
The Vancouver Aquarium and Science World both pair well with a hotel near English Bay booked through Booking.com , and a family-sized city tour on GetYourGuide can bundle several of the indoor stops into one day. For older kids ready for a bigger outing, the day trips guide covers Grouse Mountain and Capilano in more detail.
