Dubrovnik With Kids: Cable Car and Lokrum
Dubrovnik With Children, Without the Meltdowns
The cable car costs €8 for a child’s return ticket, and the ride is four minutes long. Kids who would never walk the City Walls will happily ride a glass cabin up Mount Srđ.
The cable car
Adults pay €30 return or €17 one-way. Children aged 4 to 12 pay €8 return or €5 one-way, and under-4s travel free. The official timetable lists hours, and the service is closed in December and from January to March, and it pauses in high wind or lightning.
Lokrum
The island is a calm morning out: peacocks wander the paths, the botanical garden has shade and the little saltwater lake nicknamed the Dead Sea is easy to reach. The adult ticket is €30 including the return boat. Check the reserve site for child prices, and expect closure from mid-December to February. The shore is rock with sea urchins, so pack water shoes and no sandy-beach expectations.
The City Walls with kids
Children under 7 enter free, and children from 7 to 18 pay a child price listed in the official FAQ . The route is steep, exposed and short on shade, and there are drops on the sea side. Children must be supervised at all times, so younger ones do better on a hand or a carrier. Go at opening and carry water. Fort Lovrijenac is included with the same ticket.
Beaches and swimming
Banje has a free zone plus paid sunbeds at roughly €40 to €60 a day. The Lapad coves are pebble and rock. Both reward water shoes. Danče has flat stone slabs good for older children who swim confidently.
Elaphiti day
The local ferry to Koločep and Lopud is a cheap boat ride, and Lopud is car-free with a sandy beach at Šunj. See family boat trips if you want lunch on board.
Smaller stops
Dubrovnik Aquarium is housed in Fort St John and shows Adriatic sea life. Check hours and prices before going. The Old Town is steps and cobbles, so carriers beat pushchairs.
Treats
Snacks keep morale up on hot days, so carry a few coins and plan one stop each morning and afternoon.
A burek from a local bakery is €2.50 to €4.50, and gelato on Stradun is €2.50 to €4.00 a scoop.
Verdict
For longer outings, the day trips page lists boat and road options.
Make Lokrum or the cable car the main event on each day and keep the Walls for the cooler start. Book the morning boat to Lokrum and be on the island before the crowds arrive.
