Is Yala a day trip from Colombo?
No. Yala National Park is 5-6 hours from Colombo, firmly an overnight destination, and trying to compress it into a single day from the capital means most of your day is spent in a vehicle rather than on safari.

If you visit, go in aware of both sides rather than expecting an uncomplicated “feed the baby elephants” experience.
