Amman’s attraction tours mean museums and foundations inside the city limits, not Petra or the Dead Sea; those need a car and a full day or more, covered separately on the day-trip and multi-day pages.
The Jordan Museum, for the deep timeline
Ras Al-Ayn’s Jordan Museum holds the country’s two most-cited pieces: the Ain Ghazal statues, plaster human figures dated to around 7500 BCE and among the oldest large-scale human sculptures found anywhere, and the Copper Scroll from Cave 3 at Qumran, an engraved list of 64 hiding places for temple treasure. The Royal Automobile Museum, for something lighter
Set in Al Hussein Public Parks, this houses over 70 vehicles from the personal collections of King Hussein and King Abdullah II, spanning a 1916 model to modern supercars, plus an armored Mercedes and a 1952 Aston Martin DB2. It also holds the full-scale Martian Rover prop from Ridley Scott’s The Martian, donated to Jordan after filming in Wadi Rum. Admission is 3 JOD, 5 JOD with an audio guide; closed Tuesdays. Darat al Funun, free and worth the walk
Six restored 1920s stone villas on Jabal Luwebdeh, built around olive trees and the ruins of a 6th-century Byzantine church, host the leading non-profit platform for contemporary Arab art: rotating exhibitions, experimental video, and an open-access art library. Two smaller, specific collections
The Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts in Jabal Luwebdeh holds more than 3,000 paintings, sculptures, and ceramics from across the Arab world, Africa, and Asia; entry is 3 JOD for foreign visitors, free with the Jordan Pass. The Tiraz Centre houses the world’s largest private collection of embroidered Palestinian, Jordanian, and Syrian thobs and silver jewelry, for 3 JOD.
When a museum day becomes a full circuit
Pair the Jordan Museum with the Citadel above it and the Royal Automobile Museum in the same park for a full day of inside-city attractions without a car. Guided combination tours covering several of these sites are listed on Viator . Buy the Jordan Pass online before landing if you’re also doing Jerash or the Citadel, since the visa waiver only applies to passes purchased in advance, and it isn’t accepted retroactively at the gate.
