Manama 5 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)

Travel advisory: Bahrain is currently a participant in the wider 2026 regional conflict with Iran, and Manama has taken direct hits, including a drone strike on a hotel. The situation is ongoing after a ceasefire collapsed in July. Check the current US State Department or UK FCDO advisory before booking, and treat this as a plan for when it’s safe to travel.
Five days builds on the 4 day itinerary with a full extra day for Al Areen’s wildlife drive and Saar’s overlooked Dilmun ruins, rather than rushing the archaeology into one desert day. For a longer version, see the 6 day itinerary .
Day 1: Manama City Core
Bahrain National Museum, then the Al Fateh Grand Mosque for a free guided tour outside Friday prayer times. Late afternoon in the Manama Souq, dinner in Block 338, Adliya.
Day 2: Bahrain Fort and Muharraq
Morning at Qal’at al-Bahrain and its on-site museum, afternoon in Muharraq for the Pearling Path and the last hand-built dhow shipyard. Dinner on the Muharraq waterfront.
Day 3: Desert Day
A’ali’s Dilmun Burial Mounds and pottery workshops, then the Tree of Life at sunset. The Bahrain International Circuit is nearby if motorsport interests you, the 2026 F1 Grand Prix is not happening here, it relocated to Sepang, Malaysia.
Day 4: Al Areen and Saar
Spend the morning at Al Areen Wildlife Park, a safari-style tour-bus drive past Arabian oryx, cheetahs, and gazelles across roughly 7 square kilometers. In the afternoon, detour to Saar, a compact excavated Dilmun-era town with a solstice temple, genuinely quiet compared to the Fort. Evening back in Block 338 or Adliya.
Day 5: Slow Morning and Departure
A genuinely unhurried last day: Beit Al Quran in Hoora, a final pass through the Manama Souq, or the drive out to the King Fahd Causeway’s Passport Island towers before your flight from Bahrain International Airport.

Al Areen and Saar are both awkward on public transport, this is the day a rental car earns its cost the most on this itinerary.
The honest verdict: five days is where Bahrain stops feeling rushed, Day 4 alone justifies the extra night over the 4 day version if archaeology and wildlife both interest you.
