Belgrade 7 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)

Seven days is our 6-day plan plus a genuinely slow flex day, because a week of splavovi, river cruises and day trips earns one morning with nowhere to be. Day 1: The confluence, then Savamala

Bus 72 from Nikola Tesla Airport runs free, no ticket or card needed, per the Tourist Organization of Belgrade , roughly 30-40 minutes to Zeleni Venac; the A1 express is about 400 RSD if you would rather not wait. Base in Savamala, Dorćol or Zemun, walk to Kalemegdan for the free 24-hour confluence view, the one city-history stop this route needs, then a Savamala or Dorćol kafana dinner over a Skadarlija tourist table.

Day 2: Zemun, a cruise, then the splav

Zemun’s Gardoš Tower (roughly 200 RSD) and a fish lunch on the Danube quay fill the morning. Book a Sava-Danube cruise for late afternoon, EUR 21-33 for 90 minutes, sunset from about EUR 40. Splav entry runs EUR 5-15 with EUR 3-5 drinks; skip the VIP tables (from EUR 300+) tonight, day 6 is the night to go further.

Day 3: Ada Ciganlija, the Belgrade Sea

A full day at Ada Ciganlija, listed among Serbia’s national attractions , swimming, cycling, lakeside bars, free transport in, no charge for the lake paths beyond a sunbed or rental. Close with a quieter kafana dinner in Dorćol or Zemun.

Day 4: The Belgrade Waterfront and Kula

Book a timed slot for the Belgrade 360 Deck atop Kula Belgrade and confirm the current ticket price directly, then walk Ušće Park along the confluence from the Novi Beograd side. Note the real controversy too, an uncompeted tender and cleared Yugoslav-modernist buildings, alongside the new skyline.

Day 5: A Danube day trip to Smederevo Fortress

Smederevo, roughly an hour southeast along the Danube, holds one of the largest lowland fortresses in Europe, a genuinely different texture from the city itself. Book an operator day tour if you would rather not drive, pairing it with Golubac Fortress further downstream if the day allows.

Day 6: A second splav night, done properly

Carry cash in dinars for the bill, card machines are not universal on the barges. Compare venues rather than settling for the first queue: Savamala’s cluster for the bigger crowd, a quieter Dorćol bar first for a slower build. Same prices as Day 2, still not worth a VIP table for two people.

Day 7: The flex day, and is the Belgrade Card worth it?

Is the Belgrade Card worth buying on a trip this long? Marginal yes, roughly EUR 8-12 for free entry to several state museums plus small restaurant and bar discounts, worthwhile mainly because it removes decision-making on your last morning rather than because Belgrade’s individual ticket prices are high, they are already cheap on their own.

Spend the morning slow, a repeat Zemun coffee or a last Ada Ciganlija walk if the weather holds, pick up rakija or ajvar to bring home from a market rather than an airport shop, and confirm your BEG departure the same way you arrived, bus 72 free, the A1 express at roughly 400 RSD if you are cutting it close on time.
