“Walking tour” in a Fiji brochure usually means beach promenade and coconut trees. Suva’s version means colonial verandahs, a working market, and a cathedral built from imported sandstone, because Suva is a capital city, not a resort strip, and pretending otherwise sets up a disappointing walk. The colonial route, and it is the strongest one Victoria Parade is where this city’s actual architecture lives: the 1914 Grand Pacific Hotel’s whitewashed facade and verandahs, the Art Deco clock tower on the Government Buildings (Parliament and the High Court sit inside), Queen Elizabeth Barracks, and the timber-built 1904 Old Town Hall.

Most “Suva day trips” lists just recycle whatever is near Nadi and slap Suva’s name on it. Skip those. The real day trips here start from Suva or Pacific Harbour, and exactly four of them are worth the drive: a river safari, a shark dive, a UNESCO ghost town, and a set of genuine white-water rapids. Navua River Safari and Magic Waterfalls Motorized wooden longboats leave from Navua town, about 45 minutes from Suva, and push into volcanic canyons hung with vines and rainforest.
