Walking Sibiu Sibiu is a good walking city. The Upper Town and Lower Town fit into one loop of about 2 to 3 hours, with stops. The paving is uneven cobbles, slick when wet or frozen, so bring sturdy shoes. The streets are very safe, with normal petty-theft care in crowds.
The classic loop Start in Piața Mare, the largest square. Walk into Piața Mică and cross the Bridge of Lies, the first cast-iron bridge in Romania.

Sightseeing in Sibiu Sibiu was European Capital of Culture in 2007, and its historic centre has been on Romania’s UNESCO Tentative List since 2004. The UNESCO World Heritage sites nearby are Sighișoara’s historic centre and the Saxon fortified church villages. The centre is made of three linked squares, a Lower Town along the Cibin, and a few surviving sections of city wall, all within a short walk of each other.

A romantic stay in Sibiu Sibiu suits couples who like old streets, good food and slow evenings more than sightseeing marathons. The Upper Town is compact, so a dinner, a bridge and a tower can fit into one walk. Plan for evenings, when the squares thin out, and wear shoes you can manage on cobbles.
Sunset from the cathedral tower The tower of the Evangelical Cathedral on Piața Huet is about 73 m high and is the best panoramic climb in the city.

Zoo Sibiu The zoo is at Calea Dumbrăvii 142, in the Dumbrava forest. It was founded in 1929 and now holds over 300 animals of 74 species.

Distances below are road estimates from route planners, so allow extra time for traffic and weather. A car is the easy way to link the villages. Trains only serve Mediaș, Sighișoara and Brașov, and Biertan has no direct public transport.
Near the city Cisnădioara is about 12 km south, a village with a hilltop Romanesque church-fortress above it.

Activities in Sibiu Sibiu is a city of about 150,000 people on the Cibin river, below the Cindrel Mountains. It works well for a few days of museums, food and an easy summer lake day, with the Saxon villages and the mountains within a drive. Most activities cluster in the Upper Town around Piața Mare, Piața Mică and Piața Huet, plus the Lower Town along the river. The Old Town paving is uneven and slick when wet or icy, so wear sturdy shoes.
