Antwerpen-Centraal puts Mechelen 17 minutes away, Brussels 45, Ghent under an hour, and Bruges and the coast within a long but doable day. What earns a trip here instead: a free rooftop at MAS with a better view than most paid observation decks in Belgium, the Rubens altarpieces still hanging in the Cathedral of Our Lady he painted them for, and a diamond district that trades roughly 84% of the world’s rough stones without actually cutting most of them anymore.
