The Rynek, for the obvious shot done right
The Rynek’s reconstructed townhouses read flat under midday sun; come back in late afternoon for the warm, low light that actually shows off the colors, and work the square’s edges and side streets, Kurzy Targ among them, for angles away from the crowd clustered in front of the Old Town Hall.
Ostrów Tumski, for the shot no other city offers
This is the one genuinely unique photo opportunity in Wrocław: a lamplighter still lights the gas street lamps on Cathedral Island by hand every evening, one of the only places left in Europe where that happens. Time your visit for dusk specifically, not just “evening,” to catch the lamps coming on against a still-blue sky rather than full dark.
Tumski Bridge, for the reflection shot
Tumski Bridge connects Ostrów Tumski to the rest of the city, and sunset here puts the cathedral’s twin spires and the water together in one frame. It’s a short walk from the gas-lamp shot above, so plan both for the same golden-hour window.
Plac Solny, colorful at any hour
The old salt-square, right off the Rynek, is reliably photogenic at any time of day thanks to its own ring of colorful townhouses, and it’s a good backup if the Rynek itself is too crowded for the shot you want.
Centennial Hall after dark
Max Berg’s 1911-13 dome, lit at night, paired with the Pergola’s Multimedia Fountain show, is the best evening photo outside the Old Town. Check current fountain showtimes before you go, the light show and the dome’s own lighting run on separate schedules.
The dwarfs, best shot low and in daylight
The bronze krasnale scattered across the city photograph best in daylight, shot low to the ground at their own scale rather than from standing height, which is how most snapshots of them end up looking like an afterthought instead of the main subject.
