The town’s own tourist office lists current house-tour hours along the avenue, and a night in Épernay puts the second morning’s cellar visit a short walk from bed rather than a train ride away.
Distinguishing this from the standalone day trip
A day trip covers Reims Cathedral plus one house comfortably. An overnight covers two houses, Épernay’s avenue, and a proper unhurried dinner instead of a train-timetable-driven lunch. Decide which version you want before booking a single house tour, since the overnight’s value is entirely in the second house and the evening, not in seeing more of Reims itself.
Verdict: book the overnight if champagne is the actual point of the trip, and stick to the single-house day trip if it is one stop among several other priorities.
