Exploring Xi’an, China: A Comprehensive Tourist Guide

Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses Museum (唐壮士兵 terra-cotta army)

Location: Lintong District, about 40 minutes east of downtown Xi’an.

Description: This is one of the most significant archaeological discoveries in the 20th century. The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China, and was buried with the emperor to protect him in his afterlife.

Ancient City Wall (古城墙)

Small Wild Goose Pagoda (小野雀塔)

Description: This eight-story pagoda was built in 707 AD during the Tang Dynasty. It houses Buddhist scriptures brought to China by Xuan Zang (Hiuen Tsang). The pagoda can be climbed for a panoramic view of Xi’an.

Description: This museum houses over 370,000 historical items, providing a comprehensive overview of China’s history and culture, with a special focus on the Shaanxi province. The exhibits are well-organized and easily accessible.

Great Mosque (大清真寺)

Location: In the Muslim Quarter.

Description: This is one of the oldest mosques in China and a significant place of worship for Xi’an’s Muslim community. Non-Muslim visitors are welcome to explore the courtyard, but remember to be respectful.

Tang Dynasty Show (唐歌舞)

Location: Various locations around Xi’an, particularly in tourist areas like Bell Tower and Drum Tower.

Description: This traditional show offers a glimpse into the culture and entertainment of the Tang Dynasty. Performers wear ancient costumes and sing and dance to music played on traditional instruments. It’s a great way to learn about Xi’an’s rich history.
