Taoyuan Bus Tours: Skip the Guided Group
Older guides to “Taoyuan bus tours” send you to Sun Moon Lake and Pingxi sky lanterns, both of which sit in entirely different counties. You don’t need a paid coach company here. Taiwan’s own Tourist Shuttle network already covers Taoyuan’s real attractions for the price of a bus fare.
Route 501: THSR Taoyuan Station to Daxi
The Daxi Express departs from Platform 5 at THSR Taoyuan Station and runs directly to Daxi Old Street and Daxi Bus Station, a 45-minute ride for around NT$50 with an EasyCard tapped at boarding. No booking required, no tour guide script.
Route 502: the weekend line to Xiaowulai
This shuttle runs weekends and holidays only, from Taoyuan Railway Station through Cihu to the entrance of Xiaowulai Skywalk. Since it doesn’t operate on weekdays at all, you’ll never accidentally show up on the Tuesday the skywalk itself is closed for maintenance; the schedules simply don’t overlap.
Route 503: Zhongli to Shimen Reservoir
Departing Zhongli Bus Station, this line stops at Longtan Lake and local dried tofu producers before reaching Shimen Reservoir, useful if you want the reservoir view without renting a car for mountain roads.
Airport shuttles for the outlet run
Regional shuttles link airport-area transit hotels with the Qingpu shopping plazas and Gloria Outlets, a short hop if you have a long layover and want to do something with it besides sit in a lounge.
Why the shuttle beats a coach company here
THSR Taoyuan Station itself sits an 8-minute walk from Xpark Aquarium and directly connects to Gloria Outlets, so a single shuttle hop from the station does more work than a scheduled coach pickup ever would. Fares run in NT$ (New Taiwan Dollar), not yuan, and typhoon season, July through October, can suspend the mountain-bound 502 and 503 routes without much notice, so check the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle site the morning of if storms are forecast.

Concrete tip: reload your EasyCard at any 7-Eleven or FamilyMart before boarding. Drivers on these routes generally don’t sell single paper tickets or make change for cash fares, so arrive with the card already loaded rather than counting on the driver to sort you out.
