Shows and Events in Mandalay

Mandalay has long been associated with Burmese performing arts, particularly marionette theatre and classical dance, and with evening markets. No theatre, show or market schedule can be confirmed at present.

What the city is known for

• Marionette theatre: a traditional form with carved wooden puppets and folk stories. Historic venues have not been confirmed as operating, and a website formerly linked for it should not be trusted.
• Dance performances: classical Burmese dance and music, once staged for visitors. Current schedules are unconfirmed.
• Evening markets: food stalls and goods in the evening, subject to curfews that can apply at short notice.
• Festivals: Buddhist festivals follow the lunar calendar, but public gatherings are affected by security restrictions.

Hot air balloon flights have been associated with Bagan rather than Mandalay. Curfews and stay-at-home orders in some areas carry risks of detention for anyone who ignores them.
