Water Activities in Bulgaria

Black Sea Coast

• Location: Varna, Bourgas, and many other cities along the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast
• Activities: Swimming, sunbathing, sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, scuba diving, and fishing
• Highlights: Albena resort is famous for its sandy beaches and clear waters. The Cape Kaliakra nature reserve offers beautiful rock formations and a historical fortress.

Danube River

• Location: Rousse, Silistra, Vidin, and other towns close to the Bulgarian-Romania border
• Activities: Boat trips, fishing, water skiing, canoeing, and kayaking
• Highlights: The Iron Gates, a natural gorge on the Danube between Romania and Serbia, is a must-see. The town of Rousse boasts beautiful architecture from the Ottoman and Bulgarian Revival periods.

Strandzha Mountain National Park

• Location: Near the towns of Kameno and Malko Turnovo
• Activities: Swimming in freshwater lakes, hiking, and birdwatching
• Highlights: The national park is rich in flora and fauna. Don’t miss the Sugareva Banya lake for a refreshing swim.

Sreburna Nature Reserve

• Location: Near the town of Razgrad

• Highlights: The nature reserve is home to over 250 bird species and numerous other animals. It’s a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts.

Iskar Dam Reservoir

• Location: Near Sofia
• Activities: Boat trips, fishing, and swimming
• Highlights: The reservoir offers beautiful landscapes and is a great place for relaxation near the capital city.

Note: If you are far from any water sources, Bulgaria does not offer many opportunities for water activities.
