Odense has a busy cultural calendar for a city its size, anchored by a big August festival and a strong summer music line-up, plus year-round concerts and theatre. Festival dates shift every year, so treat the dates below as a guide and check the official listings before you plan. Ticket prices are in Danish kroner (DKK), not euro.

Festivals through the year

The H.C. Andersen Festivals is Denmark’s largest cultural festival, running 13 to 22 August in 2026. It puts on 500-plus events, most of them free: theatre, music, street performance and visual art spread across the city.

Tinderbox is the major music festival, held at Tusindarsskoven on 25 to 27 June in 2026, with international and Danish acts across several stages.

OFF, the Odense International Film Festival, runs annually in late August. The Odense Jazz Festival and the Dynamo circus festival also feature on the calendar, though names and timing move year to year.

Concert halls and live music

For year-round shows, Odense Koncerthus (the Concert Hall) is home to the Odense Symphony Orchestra, and the Carl Nielsen Museum adjoins it, a fitting link given the composer is the city’s other famous son. Musikhuset Posten runs a heavy schedule of rhythmic-music gigs (around 100 to 120 concerts a year), while Dexter focuses on jazz, blues, folk and world music. Magasinet, in the Brandts complex in the Latin Quarter, hosts concerts and club nights.

Theatre

Odense Teater is the main stage for drama and larger productions, and Teater Momentum offers a smaller, more experimental programme. Check what is on during your dates, as runs are seasonal.

Practical tips

Book ahead for the headline events, especially Tinderbox and the busiest H.C. Andersen Festivals days. Many festival events are free and outdoors, so you can dip in without a ticket. Confirm start times, venues and prices on each event’s own website close to your visit, since summer schedules fill quickly.
