Multi-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Mekele - Hammaje
Start your journey from Mekele, the capital city of the Tigray Region, and head towards Hammaje, a small village on the outskirts of the Danakil Depression. Overnight camping is available in Hammaje.
Day 2: Hammaje - Dallol
In the morning, continue your journey to Dallol, the hottest inhabited place on Earth (60°C / 140°F). Explore the multicolored geothermal fields, acidic lakes, and sulfur mines. Remember to stay on marked paths for safety.
Day 3: Dallol - Salt Lake - Dodom
After visiting Dallol, head towards the stunning salt flats of Asale or Lake Assale. The area is a vast expanse of white salt, creating an otherworldly landscape. Overnight camping is available at Dodom, near Erta Ale volcano.
Day 4: Dodom - Erta Ale Volcano - Dodom
Take a guided night trek to the summit of Erta Ale volcano (613 m / 2011 ft) to witness its active lava lake. Descend back to Dodom for overnight camping.
Day 5: Dodom - Hammaje - Mekele
Return to Hammaje and continue your journey back to Mekele, marking the end of an unforgettable multi-day adventure in Dallol.
