Montenegro Festivals and Live Shows
Shows and Events in Montenegro
Montenegro’s calendar of events runs on the coast’s seasons: a flower festival at the end of winter, boats and fireworks in high summer, and a beach music festival to close it out.
Fašinada, Perast’s Night of Stones (22 July)
Every year on 22 July, at sunset, the fishing families of Perast row wooden boats out to the artificial islet of Our Lady of the Rocks and drop stones into the water around its edge. The custom continues a tradition that began in 1452, when local fishermen are said to have found a religious icon on the reef and began building the island up around it stone by stone. A round-trip water taxi from Perast’s waterfront runs €5 to €10.
Boka Night in Kotor (early August)
Bokeljska noć fills Kotor Bay with an illuminated boat parade and closes with fireworks over the Old Town’s Venetian walls. It falls in the first half of August most years and is worth checking against the current year’s municipal calendar before booking accommodation nearby, since dates shift.
Mimosa Festival in Herceg Novi (February)
Herceg Novi marks the end of winter with a month-long celebration of the mimosa trees that bloom early along this stretch of coast, including parades and open-air events through February. It is one of the milder-weather events on this list and a reasonable reason to visit the bay in the off-season.
Sea Dance Festival at Buljarica (late August)
On Buljarica beach near Petrovac, Sea Dance runs a multi-day electronic and dance-music lineup over several nights in late August, organized by the same team behind Serbia’s EXIT Festival across the border. Expect the beach towns nearby to book out early; reserve a room well ahead of the festival dates.
Regular Performances
The National Theatre of Montenegro in Podgorica stages opera, ballet and drama through the year outside the festival season. Programming changes annually, so check the current season’s schedule rather than planning around a specific title in advance.
Planning Around These Dates
Accommodation on the Budva-Petrovac stretch of coast is worth booking early for Sea Dance week specifically; see current availability on Booking.com . For Boka Night, a short evening boat trip out on the bay gives a better view of the fireworks than the Old Town quay does; boats can be arranged through GetYourGuide .
Read more: the Montenegro sightseeing guide covers Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks outside festival dates, and Kotor’s own tourism site and Budva’s tourism site both keep current-year event calendars.
Evenings on the water cool quickly even in August; bring a layer for any of the boat-based events above, whatever the daytime temperature suggested.
