Lembongan Island Tours by Truck and Scooter
Island Tours in Nusa Lembongan
Nusa Lembongan has no buses, and cars are virtually banned. Island tours run by pickup truck or buggy, or you ride a bicycle or scooter yourself. The island is about 8 km2, so a full circuit takes a few hours. Here are some tips and information for touring the island.
- Tour Types:
- Island Tour: A private pickup truck or buggy takes you around the island with stops at Panorama Point, the Gala-Gala Underground House, the Yellow Bridge, Devil’s Tear, Dream Beach and the mangroves.
- Beach Hopping: Visit Jungut Batu, Mushroom Bay and Sandy Bay. Mushroom Bay is the most sheltered beach for swimming, while Dream Beach and Sandy Bay face open ocean with rips, so they are for views and sunbathing.
- Snorkeling & Diving Tours: Boat tours and dive trips visit reefs and dive sites around the island and off Nusa Penida.
- Duration: Buggy hire is priced for 5 hours up to 24 hours. A half day is enough for the main stops.
- Costs: A pickup-truck taxi has a minimum of about IDR 100,000-150,000 per hop. A buggy seating up to five costs about IDR 800,000 for 5 hours to IDR 1,500,000 for 24 hours. Bicycles rent for about IDR 20,000-40,000 a day and scooters for about IDR 75,000-150,000.
- Scooters: Riders need a home licence plus an International Driving Permit with a motorcycle endorsement, and a good helmet. Roads are narrow and hilly, with gravel near Ceningan.
- What to Bring: Sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, sturdy walking shoes, swimwear, a waterproof bag for valuables, and cash for small purchases.
- When to Go: April to October is dry, with calmer crossings from Sanur. November to March is wetter, and swell can cancel boats.
- Safety Tips: Stay behind the barriers at Devil’s Tear and never step on wet rock. Wear a life jacket on boats and on water activities.
- Booking: Truck and buggy drivers can be arranged through your accommodation or on the street. Agree the price and the route before you set off.
