Group Activities Mandalay Region
Travel advisory: Official advice is to stay away: the US advises against all travel to Myanmar, and the UK advises against all but essential travel to Mandalay and against all travel to Sagaing and the area north of the city. Fighting, drone attacks, curfews and internet shutdowns continue, and many places were damaged in the March 2025 earthquake. Check the US State Department and UK FCDO before making plans.
Group Activities in Mandalay Region
Group tours of the Mandalay Region have traditionally been built around the same heritage circuit. Official advice currently points away from group travel to the region, and none of the sites below can be confirmed open.
Heritage stops that were common
- Mandalay city: palace grounds, Kuthodaw Pagoda, Shwenandaw Monastery and Mandalay Hill. Several were damaged in the March 2025 earthquake.
- Mingun and Sagaing Hill: a river excursion and a ridge of monasteries, both in Sagaing Region. Hsinbyume Pagoda is largely destroyed.
- Inwa: an old capital reached by cart. Most historic structures were damaged, and Maha Aungmye Bonzan is nearly destroyed.
- Monywa: a large pagoda complex far to the northwest in Sagaing Region, with unconfirmed status.
Bagan is a separate area, and group balloon flights or river tours there cannot be verified. Flight schedules, banking and communications are unreliable across the country.
