Travel advisory: American authorities advise against all travel to Myanmar. British authorities advise against all but essential travel to Mandalay and against all travel to Sagaing Region and the area north of Mandalay city. Armed conflict, drone strikes, curfews and communications blackouts are ongoing, and the March 2025 earthquake damaged many sights. Bus Tours in Mandalay Region

Multi-stop bus tours once linked the sights of Mandalay with the old capitals nearby. Whether any such tour is operating is unconfirmed.

Stops traditional tours included

• Mandalay city: palace grounds, Kuthodaw Pagoda, Shwenandaw Monastery and Mandalay Hill. Damage from the March 2025 earthquake is documented at several of these.
• Mingun: a giant unfinished stupa and a bell, plus Hsinbyume Pagoda, which is largely destroyed. Mingun is in Sagaing Region.
• Sagaing Hill: monasteries and pagodas along a ridge, also in Sagaing Region.
• Inwa: an old capital where most historic structures were damaged; Maha Aungmye Bonzan is nearly destroyed. Access has depended on a river crossing and horse carts.

The UK advises against all travel to Sagaing and the area north of Mandalay city, and against all but essential travel to the rest of the region. Onboard Wi-Fi and similar features should not be assumed. Roads have checkpoints and curfews.
