Travel advisory: Both the US and UK governments warn against travel here: the US advises against all travel to Myanmar, while the UK advises against all but essential travel to Mandalay and against all travel to Sagaing and the area north of the city. Fighting, drone attacks, curfews and internet shutdowns persist, and the March 2025 earthquake damaged many sites. Check the US State Department and UK FCDO before any planning.

Mandalay Region: Water and Animal Activities

The Mandalay Region has not been a destination for organised water sports or wildlife tourism, and boat rides, kayaking and sanctuaries here are not verified.

What the region has

• The Irrawaddy River (also spelled Ayeyarwady) passes Mandalay, Sagaing and Mingun. Boats have long served river communities, but any tourist services are unconfirmed.
• U Bein Bridge and Taungthaman Lake near Amarapura have traditionally attracted visitors at sunset. The current condition of the bridge and access to it are unconfirmed.
• Inle Lake is in Shan State and not part of this region.
• The Chindwin River joins the Irrawaddy far to the west of Mandalay and is not a local outing.

Sagaing Region, across the river from Mandalay, is under the strictest official warnings. No wildlife venue in the region can be confirmed open.
