Adventure Tours Mandalay Region
Travel advisory: American authorities advise against all travel to Myanmar. British authorities advise against all but essential travel to Mandalay and against all travel to Sagaing Region and the area north of Mandalay city. Armed conflict, drone strikes, curfews and communications blackouts are ongoing, and the March 2025 earthquake damaged many sights. Read the latest from the US State Department and UK FCDO before planning anything.
Mandalay Region: Tours Historically Offered
The Mandalay Region has been visited mainly for heritage rather than adventure. The heritage areas that tours traditionally covered are listed below, and none can be confirmed open.
Areas tours covered
- Mandalay city: palace grounds, Mandalay Hill and Kuthodaw Pagoda. The palace walls were damaged in the 2025 earthquake, and Kuthodaw sustained serious structural damage.
- Sagaing Hill and Mingun: monastery-covered hills and an unfinished giant stupa across the river. Both are in Sagaing Region, where the UK advises against all travel. Hsinbyume Pagoda at Mingun is largely destroyed.
- Inwa and Amarapura: old capitals and U Bein Bridge. Inwa lost most of its historic structures to damage, and the condition of the bridge is unconfirmed.
- Irrawaddy river trips: boat services that once linked these sites. Their operation is unconfirmed.
Hmawbi is not part of this region. Trekking suggestions in the hills are not supported by any current information.
