Hollywood Studios, Disney World, Orlando
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is consistently rated among the best theme park attractions in the world by people who measure these things, and it lives at Hollywood Studios. The ride uses a combination of screen technology, physical sets, practical effects, and live actors in a multi-phase experience that runs about 18 minutes. The queue regularly exceeds 120 minutes at peak hours. The correct strategy is either the virtual queue (through the My Disney Experience app at 7am on park opening day) or arriving at rope drop and walking directly to Galaxy’s Edge.
The Park
Hollywood Studios is one of four parks at Walt Disney World in Orlando, occupying 135 acres. It was substantially rebuilt in the late 2010s around two major additions: Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land. The park now divides into a Star Wars half, a Pixar area, the original Hollywood-themed boulevard with its classic attractions, and a small Indiana Jones section.
Galaxy’s Edge is the immersive build-out that justifies the rebuild: an alien market planet where the staff costumes, food, and app-linked interactivity all reinforce the same fiction. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run puts you in the cockpit of the actual Falcon (or a very good replica) as a pilot, gunner, or engineer on a mission. Build-a-lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop costs USD 250 and takes about 15 minutes; advance booking through My Disney Experience is required as walk-in availability is rare.
Tower of Terror (a Twilight Zone hotel with unpredictable drop sequences) and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster (0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, indoor, dark) are the legacy thrill rides on Sunset Boulevard. Both have single-rider lines that move significantly faster than standby.
The Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular runs multiple times daily in an outdoor amphitheatre and demonstrates film stunt choreography with audience participants. Genuine entertainment, genuinely worth attending once.
Eating
The 50s Prime Time Café is a table-service restaurant decorated as a 1950s family kitchen where servers play demanding relatives who insist you finish your vegetables. The food (meatloaf, pot roast, milkshakes) is beside the point; the experience is the draw. Book 60 days ahead through Disney’s reservation system. Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater serves food in cars facing a drive-in movie screen showing 1950s science fiction clips; the same booking advice applies.
Practical Notes
Ticket prices range from about USD 109 to 189 per day depending on date. Lightning Lane passes (paid skip-the-queue access) are available at additional cost. Arrive at rope drop (typically 9am) for Galaxy’s Edge. The My Disney Experience app is necessary for virtual queues, dining reservations, and mobile ordering.
