Vancouver 3 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)
Three days is our 2-day plan plus a third day in Gastown and Chinatown, still entirely inside the city. If Whistler or Victoria are actually on your list, that’s what our Vancouver, British Columbia itinerary is built for, not this one.
Book these before you go:
- Your downtown Vancouver stay : the West End puts Stanley Park at your door
- Grouse Mountain Skyride tickets : peak summer afternoons hit gate capacity first
- A Vancouver city highlights tour : worth it if you’d rather not self-navigate the SeaBus and bus connections
| Day | Focus |
|---|---|
| 1 | Stanley Park seawall, Granville Island, English Bay sunset |
| 2 | Lynn Canyon or Capilano, Grouse Mountain Skyride |
| 3 | Gastown, Chinatown, an honest Downtown Eastside note |
Day 1: Downtown and Stanley Park
Check into a downtown or West End hotel and start at Stanley Park : walk or bike the seawall, a free roughly 9-kilometre (5.5-mile) loop that takes 1.5-2.5 hours on foot or under an hour by bike. Stop at the totem poles at Brockton Point, and catch the view of the Lions Gate Bridge from Prospect Point.
In the afternoon, head to Granville Island Public Market for lunch among the food stalls and produce vendors, reachable by the small Aquabus passenger boats from downtown. In the evening, walk to English Bay for sunset, a genuine local ritual rather than just a photo stop, and have dinner in the West End or Yaletown.
Day 2: The North Shore, done the smart way
Take the SeaBus from Waterfront Station to Lonsdale Quay (12 minutes, same zone fare as the rest of TransLink), then a short bus to the North Shore mountains. Choose Lynn Canyon Park for a genuinely free suspension bridge and rainforest trails, or Capilano Suspension Bridge Park for CAD 75-80 (about $53-57) if you want the Treetops Adventure and Cliffwalk alongside the bridge; check current hours at capbridge.com if you go that route, since booking online saves roughly 10% over the gate price.
In the afternoon, ride the Grouse Mountain Skyride (about CAD 86, or $61) for the grizzly refuge and lumberjack show, confirmed at grousemountain.com , or climb the free Grouse Grind instead if you’re fit and want the view without the gondola price. Finish at Lonsdale Quay Market for dinner and a dusk view of downtown across Burrard Inlet.
Day 3: Gastown and Chinatown
Gastown’s cobblestone lanes and the steam clock at Water and Cambie draw the crowds, but the real food and independent shops are a block or two off the main strip. In the afternoon, walk into Chinatown for the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, a genuine escape from the souvenir-shop stretch nearby.
Is the Downtown Eastside something to worry about on this day? Worth knowing about, not worth avoiding the neighborhoods over. East Hastings, bordering both Gastown and Chinatown’s eastern edge, has visible homelessness and open drug use; it’s a look-don’t-linger stretch, easy to route around, rather than a reason to skip either neighborhood’s actual attractions.
Have dinner in Chinatown or back in Gastown, and if you have energy left, Guilt & Co in Gastown runs a genuinely strong small-room live music program most nights, a better bet than chasing one specific bar that may have changed hands since it was last reviewed.
