Ukraine 2-Day Travel Itinerary

Day 1: Kiev (Kyiv)

Morning:

  • Start your day with a visit to Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square), the heart of Kiev and a symbol of Ukrainian independence.
  • Next, head to St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery to admire its striking baroque architecture.

Afternoon:

  • Explore the Kiev Pechersk Lavra (Monastery of the Caves), a historic Orthodox Christian monastery and one of Kiev’s most significant landmarks.
  • Take a stroll along the Riverside Promenade, enjoying panoramic views of Kiev from the Dnipro embankment.

Evening:

  • Visit the Kiev Funicular, an old funicular railway that connects Upper Town and Lower Town, offering a unique perspective of the city.

Day 2: Lviv

Transportation: There are numerous trains and buses from Kiev to Lviv daily. The journey takes approximately 6 hours by train or 4-5 hours by bus.

Morning:

  • Begin your day in Lviv’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and wander through its charming streets lined with colorful buildings.
  • Visit the Lviv City Hall and the Market Square (Rynok Square), the heart of Lviv’s Old Town since the 13th century.

Afternoon:

  • Explore the Lviv National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet, one of Ukraine’s most beautiful opera houses, and take a tour if possible.
  • Head to the Lviv High Castle, offering panoramic views of the city, then walk down through Park Horytska and the scenic Potocky Palace.

Evening:

Things to Know:

  • Both Kiev and Lviv have excellent public transportation systems, including trams, trolleybuses, and metros.
  • English is less common in Ukraine than in many other European countries, so it’s a good idea to learn some basic Ukrainian phrases or have a translation app handy.
  • Tipping is not expected but appreciated in restaurants, spas, and hairdressers. A tip of 5-10% is appropriate if the service was good.
