7-Day Itinerary for Travelling in Uganda
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe & Transfer to Kampala
- Location: Entebbe/Kampala
- Activities: Relax after your flight, explore Kampala city, visit the Ugandan Museum or the Namugongo Martyrs Shrine.
Things to Know: Entebbe International Airport is where most international flights land in Uganda. The local currency is the Ugandan Shilling (UGX). English is widely spoken.
Day 2: Kampala City Tour & Bujagali White Water Rafting
- Location: Kampala/Bujagali
- Activities: Visit the Kasubi Tombs, Bulange Mengo (Parliament Building), and Gaddafi National Mosque in Kampala. In the afternoon, engage in white water rafting at Bujagali.
Things to Know: White water rafting requires no previous experience but is not recommended for those with heart conditions or pregnancy.
Day 3: Transfer to Jinja & Source of the Nile
- Location: Jinja
- Activities: Visit the Source of the Nile, enjoy a boat ride, and explore Jinja town.
Things to Know: The source of the Nile is a must-visit spot for any traveler. Don’t forget your swimsuit for a dip in the Nile!
Day 4: Transfer to Mbira & Mabira Forest
- Location: Mbira/Mabira Forest
- Activities: Explore Mabira Forest, Uganda’s largest forest reserve. Look out for primates and birds, and enjoy a canopy walkway.
Things to Know: Mabira Forest is home to over 300 bird species and 11 of the 13 primate species found in Uganda.
Day 5: Transfer to Sipi Falls & Mount Elgon National Park
- Location: Sipi Falls/Mount Elgon National Park
- Activities: Visit the stunning Sipi Falls, hike Mount Elgon, and enjoy the breathtaking views.
Things to Know: The best time for hiking Mount Elgon is during the dry season (December to February).
Day 6: Transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park
- Location: Kidepo Valley National Park
- Activities: Go on a game drive, visit the Lorupei Kotorokorokot Creek, and enjoy the unique landscapes of Kidepo.
Things to Know: Kidepo is Uganda’s most remote national park but offers an unparalleled wildlife viewing experience.
Day 7: Return to Entebbe/Kampala & Departure
- Location: Entebbe/Kampala
- Activities: Spend your last day shopping for souvenirs in Kampala, visit the craft markets, or relax at a local beach in Entebbe before your departure.
Things to Know: Remember to factor in time for your journey back to Entebbe International Airport for your flight home.
Visa Requirements
- Most nationalities require a visa to enter Uganda. You can apply online or on arrival at the airport. The cost is approximately $50 USD.
Transportation
- Uganda has a good network of public and private transport. Taxis, buses, and rental cars are widely available. For long journeys, consider booking a tour operator for a more comfortable experience.
