Tuvalu 7-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Funafuti Arrival & Settlement
- Arrive at Fongafale Island (Funafuti International Airport)
- Check-in at your accommodation (Options: Avaroa Lagoon Hotel or Funafuti Lagoon Hostel)
- Orientation around the island, visit the local market and shops
- Enjoy a traditional Tuvaluan meal for dinner
- Tips: Stay hydrated as it can get quite hot in Tuvalu. Also, remember that Tuvalu operates on Fiji time (UTC+12)
Day 2: Exploring Funafuti Island
- Visit the Tuvalu Philatelic Bureau and postcards from the world’s second smallest post office
- Snorkel at Vaiaku Lagi (The Queen’s Wharf), home to a variety of marine life
- Relax on the beautiful sandy beaches of Fongafale Island
- Visit the Tuvalu National Museum and Library for a deeper understanding of the island’s history and culture
- Dinner at one of the local restaurants
Day 3: Nanumanga & Niulakita Day Trip
- Take a boat tour to Nanumanga and Niulakita (arrangements can be made through your accommodation or local operators)
- Explore these outer islands, visit local homes, and learn about the traditional Tuvaluan way of life
- Swim in crystal clear waters and snorkel around the islands
- Return to Funafuti for dinner and a well-deserved rest
Day 4: Nukulaelae Island Visit
- Travel to Nukulaelae Island by boat (arrangements can be made through your accommodation or local operators)
- Witness the unique experience of low tide, when the entire island is exposed
- Visit the Tuvalu Defence Force Training Centre and learn about their role in the region
- Return to Funafuti for dinner and a cultural performance at night (check with your accommodation for schedules)
Day 5: Falefuna Island & Faanifa Lagoon
- Take a boat trip to Falefuna Island (arrangements can be made through your accommodation or local operators)
- Relax on the pristine beach, snorkel in the vibrant coral reefs, and enjoy a picnic lunch
- Visit Faanifa Lagoon, home to a large bird sanctuary
- Return to Funafuti for dinner
Day 6: Vaiaku Lagi & Local Village Experience
- Spend the morning at Vaiaku Lagi, snorkeling and enjoying the beautiful lagoon
- In the afternoon, visit a local village (arrangements can be made through your accommodation or local operators)
- Participate in traditional Tuvaluan activities such as weaving, fishing, or cooking
- Return to Funafuti for dinner and a night of storytelling with locals
Day 7: Departure
- Spend the morning at leisure, shopping for souvenirs or relaxing on the beach
- Check out from your accommodation
- Depart from Funafuti International Airport
Travel Tips:
- Tuvalu is a cash-based society. Bring enough local currency (Australian Dollars) for your stay as ATMs are limited.
- The official language is Tuvaluan and English, but English is more widely spoken.
- Visa: Most nationalities do not require a visa to enter Tuvalu for up to 30 days. Check the latest requirements from your country’s embassy or consulate in Tuvalu.
- Transportation: The best way to explore Tuvalu is by boat, as there are no roads between the islands. Boat tours and transportation can be arranged through your accommodation or local operators.
