6-Day Itinerary for Exploring Tonga
Day 1: Arrival and Nuku’alofa (Capital)
Places to Go:
- Nuku’alofa: Spend your day exploring the capital city, visiting the Royal Palace, Queens Wharf, and the Tonga Fisheries Development Department for a glimpse into local life. Don’t forget to visit the vibrant local markets for souvenirs!
Activities:
- Relax on the beaches around Nuku’alofa, such as Lavinia Beach or Limu’e Beach.
- Visit the Tongan Arts and Crafts Cooperative to learn about traditional Tongan art.
Things to Know:
- The official currency is the Pa’anga (TOP)
- English is widely spoken, but it’s always nice to learn a few words in Tongan (“Ko e fakalofa atu ʻou ma’ua?” means “How are you?”)
Visa Requirements:
- Citizens from many countries can enter Tonga visa-free for up to 30 or 60 days. Check the Tongan Immigration Department website to confirm if your country requires a visa.
Transportation:
