Timor-Leste 7-Day Travel Itinerary

Day 1: Dili (Arrival & Exploration)

Place: Dili, the capital city of Timor-Leste.
Activities: Visit the National Parliament of Timor-Leste, Cristo Rei Statue, and the National Museum of Timor-Leste to understand the country’s history and culture. Explore the local markets for souvenirs and try some delicious local food at one of the many eateries.
Things to Know: Dili is a relatively safe city, but it’s always best to exercise caution, especially after dark. The official language is Tetun, but Portuguese and Bahasa Indonesia are also widely spoken.
Visa Requirements: A 30-day tourist visa is available on arrival for most nationalities. However, it’s advisable to check the latest requirements before your trip.
Transportation: Taxis are readily available in Dili. The main taxi companies are SunTaxi and Timor Taxis.

Day 2: Dili & Surroundings (Maubisse & Gleno)

Place: Maubisse & Gleno, scenic mountain villages nestled among the hills.
Activities: Visit the local markets for fresh produce and traditional textiles. Take a hike to Gleno Waterfall or explore the coffee plantations in Maubisse.
Things to Know: The roads can be rough, so it’s recommended to hire a 4x4 or join a guided tour. Bring appropriate clothing for hiking, including sturdy footwear and layers.

Day 3: Atauro Island

Place: Atauro Island, a beautiful tropical island off the north coast of Timor-Leste.

Things to Know: There are no ATMs on Atauro, so bring cash. Accommodation options are limited, but there are a few guesthouses available.

Day 4: Lospalos (Hiking & Cultural Experience)

Place: Lospalos, a historic town in the mountains of Timor-Leste.
Activities: Hike to the top of Mount Matebian for breathtaking views and to learn about the country’s resistance against Indonesian occupation. Visit the traditional village of Letehan and witness the unique Tetun Fataluku language and culture.
Things to Know: The hike can be challenging, so ensure you have appropriate footwear and clothing. Lospalos is a small town, so accommodation options are limited.

Day 5: Baucau (Exploration & Beach Time)

Place: Baucau, a charming coastal town on the east coast of Timor-Leste.

Things to Know: Baucau is less touristy than Dili, so it offers a more authentic glimpse into daily life in Timor-Leste.
