Tibet 4-Day Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Lhasa Exploration
- Morning: Arrive in Lhasa, Tibet. Acclimatize and rest due to the high altitude.
- Afternoon: Visit the Potala Palace, the winter palace of the Dalai Lamas.
- Evening: Stroll around Barkhor Street, a historic market area filled with traditional stores and teahouses.
Things to Know:
- Altitude sickness is common in Tibet due to its high altitude. Drink plenty of water and take it easy on the first day.
- Taxis and shared vehicles are common forms of transportation within Lhasa.
- Be respectful when visiting religious sites, remove your shoes where necessary, and dress modestly.
Day 2: Lhasa Sightseeing
- Morning: Visit Jokhang Temple, one of the most sacred temples in Tibet.
- Afternoon: Explore the Drepung Monastery. If possible, attend the Buddhist debating sessions.
- Evening: Rest and prepare for the next day’s journey.
Visa Requirements:
- A China visa is required to enter Tibet. You may need to apply for a separate Tibet Travel Permit. This can be arranged through a travel agency in China.
Day 3: Lhasa to Gyantse to Shigatse
- Morning: Depart Lhasa and head towards Gyantse (approx. 90km, 2 hours).
- Afternoon: Visit the Pelkor Chode Monastery and Kumbum Stupa in Gyantse.
- Late Afternoon: Continue to Shigatse (approx. 90km, 1.5 hours).
- Evening: Rest and explore the local area.
Day 4: Shigatse to Lhasa
- Morning: Visit the Tashilhunpo Monastery, the seat of the Panchen Lama.
- Afternoon: Return to Lhasa (approx. 270km, 5 hours).
- Evening: Prepare for departure or continue exploring Lhasa.
Transportation:
- Private cars and vans are common forms of transportation for tours in Tibet.
- Always negotiate prices before starting your journey.
- The roads in Tibet can be rough, so be prepared for a bumpy ride.
