Taiwan 3 Day Itinerary

Day 1: Taipei (台北)

Activities:

  • Visit the Taipei 101 (臺北101) for a panoramic view of the city. Don’t forget to check out the observation deck and shopping mall!
  • Explore the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (中正紀念堂) and its surrounding area, including the National Revolutionary Martyrs’ Shrine.
  • Stroll around Taipei Zoo, one of the largest zoos in Asia, home to over 1,600 species.
  • Experience Taiwanese nightlife at Ximending (西門町), a popular shopping and entertainment district for both locals and tourists.

Tips:

  • Taipei’s MRT system is extensive and easy to navigate, making it an ideal way to get around the city.
  • Taiwan uses NT$ (New Taiwan Dollar) as its currency, and credit cards are widely accepted in most shops and restaurants.

Visa Requirements:

  • Citizens from more than 60 countries can enter Taiwan for tourism without a visa for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Check the Taiwan Visa Office for updated information regarding your specific country.

Day 2: Taroko National Park (太魯閣國家公園)

Activities:

  • Spend the day exploring Taroko Gorge, one of Taiwan’s most famous natural landmarks. Hike along the Shakadang Trail (沙卡塘步道) or the Swallow Grotto (蕭Family歸宿路) for breathtaking views.
  • Visit the Eternal Spring Shrine (永春神堂) and Taroko National Park Visitor Center to learn more about the history, geology, and indigenous cultures of the area.

Tips:

  • Bring plenty of water and snacks, as there are limited facilities along the trails.
  • Wear appropriate hiking shoes and clothing, as parts of the trail can be steep and slippery.

Transportation:

  • Take a train from Taipei to Taichung (台中), then switch to a bus bound for Hualien (花蓮) city. From Hualien, hire a taxi or take a local bus to the Taroko National Park.

Day 3: Tainan (台南)

Activities:

  • Visit the Anping Old Fort (安平老城堡), a well-preserved Dutch colonial fort dating back to the 17th century.
  • Explore the Chimei Museum (奇美博物館), home to an impressive collection of art, jewelry, and natural history exhibits.
  • Stroll through the Japanese Settlement area (日本老街) in Tainan’s Anping District for a taste of the city’s rich history.
  • Don’t miss trying Tainan’s famous street food, such as oyster omelets and pineapple cakes!

Tips:

  • Rent a bike to explore Tainan at your own pace and discover hidden gems off the beaten path.
  • Many shops and restaurants in Tainan close early, so plan accordingly or visit the night markets for a late-night meal.

Transportation:

  • Take a train from Hualien to Tainan. The trip takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
