  • A taxi from the airport runs a flat rate zone system and generally costs more than the train once you factor in the access fee, so unless you have heavy luggage or arrive very late, the train remains the better value even with the surcharge.

  • Opera House shows sell out, especially anything in the main concert hall, so book before you arrive rather than hoping for same-day tickets.

Day 3: Darling Harbour and Taronga Zoo

  • Darling Harbour concentrates SEA Life Sydney Aquarium, WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo, and Madame Tussauds within a few minutes’ walk of each other, and combination tickets across the three venues cost noticeably less than buying separately.
  • A Taronga Zoo entry plus return ferry combo runs about 78 to 85 dollars depending on the operator and season, with the ferry landing a short walk from the zoo’s lower entrance. Go in the morning, since the zoo’s harbor-view giraffe enclosure and seal show both draw crowds by early afternoon.

Day 5: Blue Mountains day trip

Surry Hills, Newtown, and Paddington each have a distinct food identity, from Surry Hills’ fine dining density to Newtown’s more eclectic, budget-friendly strip along King Street.

Day 7: Final morning and departure

  • Cafe Sydney at Customs House gives a harbor-facing breakfast without the crowds of Circular Quay’s street-level cafes, and it’s an easy taxi or walk from most CBD hotels before heading to the airport.
  • The Rocks Markets run Saturdays only, while Paddy’s Market in Haymarket runs Thursday through Sunday and is the better bet for a last-minute browse regardless of which day you’re departing.
  • Build in at least three hours before an international flight from Sydney Airport, since security queues at the international terminal regularly back up during morning departure banks.
