Swaziland 5-Day Travel Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival & Mbabane City Exploration

  • Arrive at King Mswati III International Airport (SZX) in Mbabane. Visa Requirements: Most nationalities do not require a visa for stays under 30 days, but check before travel.
  • Check into your hotel and freshen up. We recommend staying at Swallows Nest Boutique Hotel or Lugogo Sun Hotel & Casino.
  • Visit the Mantenga Nature Reserve, a beautiful spot with waterfalls and Swazi cultural village (open 9 AM - 5 PM, entrance fee $8 USD).
  • Explore Mbabane city center, visit the Swaziland National Museum & Ethnographic Centre (10 AM - 4 PM, entrance fee $2 USD) to learn about Swazi history and culture.
  • Dine at Indian Ocean Restaurant for some delicious Indian cuisine.

Day 2: Hlane Royal National Park & Swazi Candle Factory

  • Head to Hlane Royal National Park in the morning (30 min drive from Mbabane). Entrance Fee: $15 USD per day for foreigners.
  • Spend the day exploring the park on self-drive safari or guided game drives/walking safaris (bookings at the park office). Spot rhinos, elephants, lions, and various antelope species.
  • In the afternoon, visit the Swazi Candle Factory in Piggs Peak (30 min drive from Hlane) to see traditional beeswax candle making. Entrance Fee: $2 USD.
  • Dine at The Old House Restaurant in Piggs Peak for a hearty meal.

Day 3: Swazi Cultural Village & Ezulwini Valley

  • Visit the Swazi Cultural Village (8 AM - 5 PM, entrance fee $10 USD) to immerse yourself in Swazi culture, learn traditional dances, crafts, and have a taste of Swazi food.
  • Spend the afternoon exploring Ezulwini Valley, with stops at Craft Village for local arts and crafts and Ezulwini Brewery for a Swazi beer tasting.
  • Dine at Sheba’s Restaurant & Rooms for excellent African fusion cuisine.

Day 4: Mkhaya Game Reserve & Phophonyane Falls

  • Early morning drive to Mkhaya Game Reserve (1 hour from Ezulwini Valley). Entrance Fee: $20 USD per day for foreigners.
  • Spend the morning on a guided game drive and spot black rhinos, wild dogs, and other rare species.
  • After lunch at Mkhaya Lodge or local restaurants, head to Phophonyane Falls (30 min drive from Mkhaya) for a scenic view of the falls and picnic area. Entrance Fee: $2 USD.
  • Return to Mbabane in the evening. Dine at Mantenga Restaurant for a special meal overlooking the falls.

Day 5: Departure

  • Spend the morning visiting any sights you may have missed or revisiting favorite spots.
  • Check out from your hotel and head to King Mswati III International Airport (SZX) for your departure flight.
