5-Day Itinerary for Exploring Rwanda

Day 1: Kigali City Exploration

• Arrival at Kigali International Airport. (Visa on arrival for some countries, check here for more information.)
• Check-in at your hotel and freshen up.
• Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial to understand Rwanda’s history.
• Explore the vibrant local markets like Nyamirambo Women’s Center or Gisozi Market.
• Have dinner at Inema Arts Cafe known for its fusion cuisine and art exhibitions.

Day 2: Kigali to Volcanoes National Park

• Depart early morning for Volcanoes National Park (approx. 2.5 hours drive).
• Arrive at your lodge and enjoy lunch.
• Afternoon visit the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village to learn about the local Batwa community.
• Evening, opt for a traditional dance performance or a walk in the Kinigi region.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking & Golden Monkey Tracking

• Wake up early for breakfast and head to the park headquarters for gorilla trekking briefing.
• Enter the forest for an unforgettable encounter with mountain gorillas.
• After lunch, embark on a second adventure - tracking the endangered golden monkeys.
• Return to your lodge and relax, or explore local villages and interact with the residents.

Day 4: Musanze Caves & Dian Fossey’s Grave

• Spend the morning visiting the Musanze Caves, a network of lava tubes formed by volcanic activity.
• In the afternoon, pay tribute to the late Dr. Dian Fossey at her grave site and visit the Karisoke Research Center.
• Return to Kigali in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Kigali City Tour & Departure

• Visit the Presidential Palace Museum or Kandt House Museum, both offering insights into Rwanda’s history.
• Explore the Centre de Science et Technologie d’Kigali (CST) for a glimpse of Rwanda’s technological advancements.
