Petra, Jordan: 7-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Acclimatization
- Arrive at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman.
- Transfer to your hotel for check-in and rest.
- Spend the afternoon exploring downtown Amman, visit the Roman Theater, Citadel, and King Abdullah Mosque.
- Have dinner at Hashem Restaurant (Al-Manshiyya St) famous for its falafel and hummus.
- Overnight in Amman.
Day 2: Transfer to Petra & Explore
- After breakfast, travel to Petra (approx. 3 hours drive).
- Upon arrival, check-in at your hotel in or near Petra.
- Start exploring the Rose City by visiting the iconic Al-Khazneh (Treasury).
- Continue to the Roman Theater, Qasr al-Bint, and the Siq.
- Have dinner at Basin Restaurant inside Petra offering a panoramic view of the Treasury.
- Overnight in Petra.
Day 3: Full Day in Petra
- Breakfast at your hotel or pack a picnic lunch.
- Visit lesser-known sites like The High Place of Sacrifice, Ad Deir (Monastery), and the Petra Church.
- Explore the Petra Nights on Mondays and Weddays (April - October) with local musicians, food vendors, and a stunning candlelit Treasury.
- Have dinner at Al-Qantara Restaurant near the bridge leading to the Monastery.
- Overnight in Petra.
Day 4: Wadi Rum Excursion
- After breakfast, embark on a day trip to Wadi Rum (approx. 1 hour drive).
- Enjoy a jeep tour, camel ride, or hot air balloon ride over the majestic red desert landscape.
- Have a traditional Bedouin lunch in the desert.
- Return to Petra for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Aqaba & Red Sea
- After breakfast, travel to Aqaba (approx. 2 hours drive).
- Spend the day relaxing at one of the many beach resorts, snorkeling, or diving in the Red Sea.
- Have dinner at a local seafood restaurant and enjoy the vibrant nightlife.
- Overnight in Aqaba.
Day 6: Return to Petra & Free Time
- After breakfast, return to Petra (approx. 2 hours drive).
- Spend the day at leisure, revisiting your favorite sites or exploring new ones, shopping for souvenirs, or simply relaxing.
- Have dinner at Al-Ghadeer Restaurant with a variety of Middle Eastern dishes.
- Overnight in Petra.
Day 7: Departure
- After breakfast, transfer back to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman for your flight home or onward journey.
Things to Know:
- Jordan uses the Jordanian Dinar (JOD) as its currency.
- Petra is a large site so wear comfortable walking shoes.
- It can get very hot during the day, so pack sunscreen and a hat.
- Always respect local customs and dress modestly.
Transportation:
- You can rent a car or hire a taxi for your travel within Jordan.
- There are guided tour options available for Petra, Wadi Rum, and Aqaba as well.
