Petra 4 Day Itinerary
Petra Travel Itinerary (4 Days)
Day 1: Arrival & City Exploration
- Arrival: Arrive at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman. Transfer to your hotel (recommended: The Grand Hyatt Amman or similar) for check-in and freshen up.
- Lunch: Visit Hashem Restaurant, a historic eatery in downtown Amman, known for its excellent Falafel and Middle Eastern dishes.
- Afternoon: Take a late-afternoon flight to Petra (approximately 1 hour). Check into your hotel (recommended: Mövenpick Petra Hotel or similar) near the entrance of Petra.
- Dinner & Evening: Dine at the Alquds Restaurant in your hotel, which offers traditional Jordanian cuisine and a beautiful view of the mountains.
Day 2: Exploring Petra
- Breakfast: Enjoy a buffet breakfast at your hotel.
- Morning: Start your Petra adventure by exploring the Siq, the narrow canyon that leads to the iconic Treasury (Al-Khazneh) and other tombs and temples along the way.
- Lunch: Pack a picnic lunch or grab something at one of the small cafes within Petra.
- Afternoon: Continue exploring Petra, visiting sites such as the Royal Tombs, the Street of Facades, the Monastery (Ad Deir), and the High Place of Sacrifice.
- Dinner & Evening: Dine at the Basin Restaurant in Petra, known for its scenic location and tasty Jordanian dishes.
Day 3: Wadi Rum Adventure
- Breakfast: Fuel up with a hearty breakfast at your hotel.
- Morning: Depart for Wadi Rum (approximately 2 hours drive). Join a 4x4 tour to explore the desert’s stunning landscapes, sand dunes, and natural rock formations.
- Lunch: Enjoy a traditional Bedouin Zarb lunch cooked underground.
- Afternoon: Visit the Seven Pillars of Wisdom, Lawrence Spring, and Khazali Canyon. If time permits, enjoy a camel ride or take a hot air balloon ride for breathtaking views.
- Dinner & Evening: Return to Petra for dinner at your hotel. Alternatively, dine at the Wadi Rum Night Camp where you can spend the night under the stars (optional activity).
Day 4: Madaba, Mount Nebo & Departure
- Breakfast: Have breakfast at your hotel and check out.
- Morning: Drive to Madaba (approximately 1.5 hours), known as the “City of Mosaics.” Visit St. George’s Church to see the famous mosaic map of Palestine.
- Lunch: Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant in Madaba.
- Afternoon: Travel to Mount Nebo (approximately 30 minutes), where Moses is said to have viewed the Promised Land. Visit the church and enjoy the panoramic view.
- Departure: Drive back to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman for your departure. (Optional: If you have an evening flight, visit the Roman City of Jerash on the way.)
Things to Know:
- Dress modestly when visiting religious sites.
- Petra can be hot during the day, so bring plenty of water and sunscreen.
- Purchase a Jordan Pass before arrival for visa-free entry to multiple attractions, including Petra and Wadi Rum.
- Tipping is customary in Jordan.
- Renting a car or hiring a driver/guide can make your trip more convenient.
