Petra 3-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival & Exploring the Main Attractions

  1. Arrival in Petra (Wadi Musa)

    • Transfer from Aqaba International Airport or Allenby Bridge to Wadi Musa (approx. 2 hours from both).
    • Check-in at your preferred hotel:
      • Mövenpick Resort Petra: Luxury, centrally located with a stunning backdrop of Mount Hor.
      • Al-Qantara Hotel: Mid-range, offers comfortable rooms and an on-site restaurant.
      • Little Switzerland Hotel: Budget-friendly, known for its cozy atmosphere and delicious food.

  2. Petra Visitor Center & The Siq

    • Visit the Petra Visitor Center to purchase tickets, hire a guide (optional), or rent a horse for the 1.2km walk through the Siq (narrow gorge).
    • Walk through the Siq and marvel at the first glimpse of Al-Khazneh (The Treasury) as it appears at the end.

  3. Petra’s Main Area

    • Spend the afternoon exploring Petra’s main area, including The Monastery, Royal Tombs, Theatre, and the High Place of Sacrifice.
    • Don’t forget to try traditional Jordanian dishes for lunch at one of the restaurants inside Petra, such as Al-Basin Restaurant or Petra Kitchen.

Day 2: Off-the-Beaten-Path Sites & Evening Show

  1. Petra’s Little Sister (Al-Beidha)

    • Hire a taxi or join a tour to visit Al-Beidha, also known as Petra’s Little Sister. This lesser-known site offers a more authentic experience and contains Nabataean tombs and Roman ruins.

  2. Petra By Night

    • In the evening, witness the Petra by Night event, where you’ll walk through the Siq accompanied by candlelight to reach the Al-Khazneh, illuminated by thousands of candles.

  3. Restaurant Recommendations

    • For dinner, dine at Cave Bar Restaurant for a unique setting and traditional dishes, or try Commodore Hotel Restaurant for a more relaxed atmosphere.

Day 3: Wadi Rum & Departure

  1. Wadi Rum

    • Spend your final day exploring the breathtaking landscapes of Wadi Rum. You can either arrange a day tour from Petra or stay overnight in Wadi Rum and return to Petra for your departure.
    • Activities include 4x4 jeep tours, camel rides, hiking, and stargazing.

  2. Return to Aqaba or Allenby Bridge

    • Transfer back to Aqaba International Airport or Allenby Bridge for your onward journey.
