Petra 2 Day Itinerary
Petra Travel Itinerary (2 Days)
Day 1:
Morning:
- Arrival at King Hussein International Airport in Aqaba.
- Take a taxi or rent a car and drive approximately 2 hours to Petra (approx. 120 JD one way).
- Check-in at your hotel, recommended: Mövenpick Petra Hotel or Crowne Plaza Resort Petra.
Afternoon:
- Visit the Visitor Center for a map, water, and restrooms.
- Start exploring Al-Khazneh (The Treasury) - one of the most famous tombs in Petra.
- Continue to the Siq, a narrow gorge that leads into Petra.
- Explore other tombs, temples, and monuments along the way such as Ad Deir Monastery.
Evening:
- Return to your hotel for dinner at the hotel restaurant or try out local cuisine at one of Petra’s restaurants, like Al Basin Restaurant.
Day 2:
Morning:
- After breakfast, head back to Petra and continue exploring.
- Visit The Royal Tombs, The Theater, and the Roman Street.
- Don’t miss Al-Beidha (Little Petra), located about 10km north of Petra city center.
Afternoon:
- Take a traditional Bedouin tea at one of the cafes in Petra.
- Visit The High Place of Sacrifice and enjoy panoramic views over Wadi Musa.
- Spend some time shopping for souvenirs in the Bedouin tents around the entrance to Petra.
Evening:
- Return to your hotel, have dinner, and relax.
- For a unique experience, consider booking a Bedouin camp dinner in Wadi Rum (approx. 1 hour away from Petra).
Things to Know:
- Wear comfortable walking shoes as you will be doing a lot of walking.
- It’s advisable to carry water and sunscreen with you.
- Hiring a guide can help you understand the history and culture better.
- Petra is best explored in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun isn’t too harsh.
- Tickets for Petra are valid for 2 days, so you can use your second day ticket at any time within the next 10 days.
Transportation:
- Renting a car is the most convenient way to get around Petra and nearby attractions.
- Hiring a taxi or joining organized tours from Aqaba or other cities is also an option.
Tips:
- Carry small Jordanian currency (JD) for buying souvenirs, snacks, and tipping guides.
- Respect local customs and traditions while visiting Petra.
- Don’t forget to take plenty of photos!
