7-Day Travel Itinerary for Paraguay
Day 1: Asunción (Arrival & City Exploration)
- Place: Asunción, the capital city of Paraguay.
- Activities: Visit the historic center of Asunción, which includes the Presidential Palace (Palacio de López), Metropolitan Cathedral, and the House of the Independence. Don’t miss the handicraft market, Mercado de los Heroes.
- Things to Know: The official language is Spanish. The currency is the Guaraní (PYG). English is not widely spoken, so it’s helpful to have a basic understanding of Spanish or a translation app.
- Visa Requirements: Citizens from many countries can enter Paraguay visa-free for up to 90 days. Always check the latest requirements before traveling.
- Transportation: Asunción’s public transportation system is well-developed, with buses and trams running throughout the city. Taxis are also available.
Day 2: Asunción (Jesuit Missions & Recreational Activities)
- Place: Continue exploring Asunción.
- Activities: Visit the Jesuit Missions of La Santísima Trinidad de Paraná, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy some leisure time at Lago Ypacarai, a popular lake for water sports and picnics.
Day 3: Ciudad del Este (Shopping & Iguazú Falls)
- Place: Ciudad del Este, known for its duty-free shopping.
- Activities: Spend the day shopping at Puerto Triunfo or Shopping del Sol. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Iguazú Falls on the Argentine side (visa requirements for Argentina apply).
Day 4: Encarnación & Itaipú Dam
- Place: Encarnación and the Itaipú Dam.
- Activities: Tour the Itaipú Dam, one of the world’s largest hydroelectric power stations. In Encarnación, enjoy a stroll along the riverfront or visit the Jesuit Mission of Jesus de Tavarangue.
Day 5: San Pedro del Ycuamandiyú & Trinidad
- Place: San Pedro del Ycuamandiyú and Trinidad.
- Activities: Take a boat tour to see the Mennonite colonies in San Pedro del Ycuamandiyú. In the afternoon, visit the colonial town of Trinidad, known for its beautiful architecture and peaceful atmosphere.
Day 6: Curupaytí & Concepción
- Place: Curupaytí and Concepción.
- Activities: Visit the indigenous Guarani community in Curupaytí, where you can learn about their culture and traditions. In the afternoon, explore the picturesque town of Concepción, known for its colorful houses and friendly locals.
Day 7: Return to Asunción (Departure)
- Place: Return to Asunción for your departure.
- Activities: If time allows, visit the Botanical Garden or the National Pantheon before heading to the airport.
