Day 1: Arrival in Muscat
- Upon arrival at Muscat International Airport, complete any necessary visa formalities (check beforehand for your country’s requirements as some nationalities can obtain a Visa on Arrival).
- Check into your hotel and freshen up.
- Visit the Muttrah Souk, an ancient marketplace offering a variety of local handicrafts, spices, textiles, and jewelry. Don’t forget to haggle!
- In the evening, enjoy a meal at one of the seafront restaurants, sampling traditional Omani cuisine like Shuwa (meat cooked in a pit) or Machboos (rice with meat and vegetables).
Day 2: Exploring Muscat
- Start your day with a visit to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, known for its stunning architecture and intricate designs. Remember to dress modestly.
- Head to the Al Alam Palace and the Bahla Fort, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
- Spend the afternoon at Al Mouj Golf, one of the top courses in the Middle East, or relax at the beautiful beaches in the area like Al Saqiyah Beach or Qurum Beach.
- In the evening, explore the modern part of Muscat and dine at a restaurant offering panoramic views of the city.
Day 3: Wadi Bani Khalid & Sur
- After breakfast, embark on a road trip to Wadi Bani Khalid, known for its stunning wadis (valleys) and crystal clear pools.
- Next, head to the coastal town of Sur, famous for its traditional dhow boat building yards. Visit the Bimah Sinkhole on the way.
- Spend the night in Sur and enjoy a seafood dinner.
Day 4: Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve
- Early morning visit to the Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve, where you can witness the incredible sight of green turtles laying their eggs (seasonal).
- Return to Sur for lunch, then continue your journey towards Wadi Shab. Explore this beautiful valley, swim in the natural pools, and hike to the famous Wadi Shab waterfall.
- Overnight stay at a hotel near Wadi Shab or return to Sur.
Day 5: Nizwa & Jebel Akhdar
- Drive to Nizwa, visit the impressive Nizwa Fort and the Royal Palace. Explore the local market for some souvenirs.
- In the afternoon, head to Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain) via Wadi Nakhr, a stunning gorge with sheer cliffs. Overnight stay in Jebel Akhdar.
Day 6: Misfat Al Abryeen & Departure
- Visit the traditional village of Misfat Al Abryeen, known for its terraced agriculture and panoramic views.
- Return to Muscat, complete any last-minute shopping or sightseeing, and prepare for your departure.
Things to Note:
- Oman is a conservative Muslim country, so dress modestly and respect local customs and traditions.
- Renting a car with a GPS is highly recommended for this itinerary as public transportation might be limited in certain areas.
