6-Day Itinerary for Exploring Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan

Day 1: Arrival & City Orientation

  • Arrive at Nur-Sultan International Airport (NSC). You can take a taxi or pre-arrange a transfer to your hotel.

  • Check-in at one of the recommended hotels: Hotel Astana or Rixos President Hotel. These are centrally located and offer comfortable stays.

  • Visit Bayterek Tower. This iconic structure is a must-see, with an observation deck offering panoramic views of the city. Buy a ticket for the elevator ride to the top.

  • Explore Khan Shatyr Entertainment Center, featuring shopping, dining, and entertainment options under a giant transparent dome.

Day 2: Historic & Cultural Sites

  • Start your day at Hazret Sultan Mosque. Admire its beautiful architecture and tranquil atmosphere.

  • Visit the Presidential Palace, a symbol of Nur-Sultan’s modernity, from outside as taking photos inside is not permitted.

  • Head to Kok Tobe Hill for breathtaking views of the city. Enjoy a ride on the scenic cable car and visit the amusement park at the top.

  • Have lunch at Shymkent restaurant, serving traditional Kazakh cuisine.

Day 3: Nature & Parks

  • Spend the morning at Kazakh Eli Square, the largest city square in the world. Take photos with the golden map of Kazakhstan.

  • Visit Oceanarium Aqua-Planet. This is one of the largest aquariums in Asia, housing a variety of marine life.

  • In the afternoon, relax at Kenuary Park or Nur Alem, both beautiful green spaces ideal for a picnic.

Day 4: Art & Museums

  • Visit the National Museum of Kazakhstan. Learn about the history and culture of Kazakhstan through interactive exhibits.

  • Explore the Nury Cobazy Art Gallery. This contemporary art museum showcases works by local and international artists.

Day 5: Day Trip to Akmola Region

  • Take a day trip to the Akmola region, home to historical sites such as Astana Medieval Castle and Shebergen Bayterek Mausoleum.

  • Have lunch at a local restaurant in the Akmola region before returning to Nur-Sultan.

Day 6: Farewell & Shopping

  • Spend your last day shopping for souvenirs at Dostyk Square Market or Khan Shatyr Entertainment Center.

  • Have a farewell dinner at Restaurant Kunafa, famous for its Middle Eastern cuisine.

  • Prepare for departure the next day, ensuring you have checked out of your hotel and arranged transportation to the airport.

Things to Note:

  • English is not widely spoken in Kazakhstan, so it’s helpful to have a translation app or a guide who speaks both English and Kazakh.

  • The weather can be extreme, with very hot summers and cold winters. Dress accordingly.

  • Credit cards are accepted at most establishments, but it’s always good to carry some local currency (Tenge).
