Nicaragua 3 Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Managua & Exploring the Capital

  • Arrival at Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA)

  • Transfer to Granada

    • Transportation: Taxis and shuttle services are available at the airport. The journey to Granada takes approximately 1 hour.

  • Explore Granada

    • Activities:
      • Stroll around the colonial town, admiring its colorful buildings and beautiful churches such as La Merced and San Francisco.
      • Visit the iconic Convento y Museo de las Mercedarias (The Museum of the Mercedarian Nuns), which offers a fascinating glimpse into Nicaraguan history.

Day 2: Isletas de Granada & Masaya Volcano

  • Isletas de Granada

    • Activities: Take a boat tour around the Isletas, a group of over 365 small islands in Lake Nicaragua. Here you can observe monkeys, birds, and other wildlife.

  • Transfer to Masaya Volcano

    • Transportation: Rent a car or arrange a tour to visit Masaya Volcano, approximately 20km from Granada.

  • Masaya Volcano National Park

    • Activities: Walk the Masaya Volcano’s lava trail and marvel at the active volcanic crater. Visit the nearby indigenous markets in Masaya town for local handicrafts.

Day 3: Leon & Surfing at Popoyo

  • Transfer to Leon

    • Transportation: Rent a car or take a bus from Granada to Leon, approximately 2 hours away.

  • Explore Leon

    • Activities: Visit the Cathedral de la Asunción, Ruinas de León Viejo (Old Leon Ruins), and the Museum of Revolution.

  • Transfer to Popoyo

    • Transportation: Rent a car or join an organized tour to reach Popoyo, about 2 hours from Leon.
