Mongolia 5-Day Travel Itinerary (Markdown Format)
Day 1: Arrival in Ulaanbaatar 🏡
- Arrive at Chinggis Khaan International Airport, Ulaanbaatar.
- Check into your hotel and rest from the journey.
- Visit the Gandan Monastery (Mongolian: Gandantegchinlen Khiid) to immerse in Buddhist culture.
- Evening stroll around Sukhbaatar Square and enjoy local street food.
Things to know:
- Mongolia uses the Tögrög (MNT) as its currency.
- English is not widely spoken, so learning a few phrases can be helpful.
- Be prepared for cold weather during spring and autumn, and hot summers.
Day 2: Explore Ulaanbaatar 🌆
- Morning visit to the National Museum of Mongolia to learn about the country’s history and culture.
- Afternoon trip to the Zaisan Memorial for a panoramic view of the city.
- Experience traditional Mongolian sports at the Mongolian National Sports Center.
- Enjoy local cuisine at one of Ulaanbaatar’s many restaurants.
Day 3: Terelj National Park 🏞️
- Travel to Terelj National Park (approximately 70km from UB).
- Visit the famous Turtle Rock and hike among beautiful landscapes.
- Stay overnight in a traditional Mongolian ger camp.
- Enjoy a traditional Mongolian barbecue and cultural performances.
Day 4: Gobi Desert 🏖️
- Travel to the Gobi Desert (approximately 300km from Terelj).
- Visit the Flaming Cliffs (Bayn Zag), where dinosaur fossils were first discovered.
- Explore Yolyn Am, a narrow gorge with ice formations year-round.
- Stay overnight in a ger camp in the Gobi Desert.
Day 5: Return to Ulaanbaatar & Departure 🛫
- Travel back to Ulaanbaatar.
- For those with time, visit the Mongolian Dinosaurs Center.
- Last-minute shopping for souvenirs at local markets like the State Department Store (Дэлгермагайн дүрэм) or Black Market (Чонон цаг).
- Depart from Chinggis Khaan International Airport.
